TERMINAL MANAGAMENT TOOL

Though much of the data for my work at Meijer is protected under an NDA, I am able to share some of the project and the process I followed when working with my team. I was the lead designer on a team full of developers, and we created a platform that allowed the user to update any terminal across all Meijer stores. In addition, the user would be able to manage picklists, which determine which items are available for sale in different sections of the stores. To do this, we tracked use cases and user flows in order to create an intuitive design for the platform.

The main challenge I faced with the creation of this configuration tool was the extensive functionality within it, as well as the large amount of data that needed to be available for management. The organization of every terminal and picklist item across all Meijer stores was an important objective to streamline, and the platform had to be intuitive enough for use by any member of Meijer corporate or development. To achieve this, I created user flows and personas based on specific goals and tasks and parsed them down to user flows, which I organized within the site map in the most intuitive way possible based on user testing and research. I also worked extensively with the developers on my team for this project to ensure the functionality of the platform would match the users’ needs.

DESIGN SYSTEMS

In addition to the terminal management tool, our team was the first team to transition to a new design system. We created the new system using Telerik, which I managed the process for. This involved creating a new component library in Figma according to the Meijer styleguide, replacing all components in existing pages to update to the new system, creating a css styleguide using Progress Themebuilder, and pushing these changes to developers in an orderly fashion. It was an extensive process, and had to be documented intensively in order to guide other teams in the future in order for the design system to be implemented company-wide.
